Data Visualization for Hyperakt
The principles of data visualization are at the core of my practice as product designer.
For five years, I worked at Hyperakt as a Senior UI/UX designer. A significant body of my work there was creating data visualizations for organizations that were actively making the world a better place, from Unicef to The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to even Sesame Street.
Through these data visualizations, I strived to alchemize raw data into compelling narratives that could be absorbed as effortlessly as possible. Below are some of my favorite created during my tenure at Hyperakt.
The Evolution of the Web
To celebrate the third anniversary of Google Chrome, Google commissioned an interactive timeline to visualize the evolution of web browser technology. The resulting piece won Silver in Interactive Visualization from the Internet is Beautiful Awards and was featured in Time, Forbes, and The Guardian.
The Refugee Project
The Refugee Project is a self-initiated data visualization. I was challenged to translate 40 years of raw data from The UN Refugee Agency into an educational, interactive experience. The finished piece was selected for MoMA’s Design and Violence exhibition and won gold at the Information is Beautiful Awards.
The American Energy Spectrum
The American Energy Spectrum designed for GOOD magazine illustrates how America generates, uses and wastes energy.
Searching for Peace in Old Age
Searching for Peace in Old Age was commissioned by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. It visualizes the implications of increasing lifespans across the globe.
